Swedish Centre Party is weakening and has now lost its threshold to reach parliament

Friday, 06 July 2012

If elections were to be held today, the Swedish centre party will not be able to get access to the parliament. As such it will not take part in the bourgeoisie government which it has been part of for six years now.
They cashed Maud Ollofsson and though that a younger face though not very experience would improve on the fortunes of the party. Instead the party has seen some spectacular swings on the polls in the past years.

In a new survey conducted recently for the tabloid newspaper, Expressen, the Centre Party has not reached the four percent threshold to enter parliament, reports Demoskop which was commissioned to carry out the survey.  Also hit is the Christian Democrats which would also see it exiting the parliament should elections be today, despite a rise of 1.3 percentage points, writes Expressen.

The distance between the government alliance parties, who receive 44.6 percent, and the Red-Green opposition with 48.8 percent have shrunk slightly after the Demoskop’s last survey, Since then the Left party has fallen by 2.5 percentage points to 4.4 percent.

Social Democrats sloped 0.3 percentage points to 35.4 while the Green Party increased from 1.4 to 9.1 percent.

Sweden Democrats get 8.0 percent in the poll, a minus of 0.6.

Demoskop questioned 1000 people aged 18 and over which party they would "vote for if the election were today?" The survey was made on June 26 to July 4.

Another survey conducted by Novus compilation of completed opinion findings in June for radio Sweden show that the Löfven effect is over for the Social Democrats. Stefan Löfven is the new leader of the social democrat and when he came in last year, there was a huge surge in the polls in support for him and the party

As such the Social Democrats' clear upturn that began when Stefan Löfven took over as party leader has slowed. At the same time also the decline in the Moderate Party, the Left Party and Green Party ended.

According to Novus the Social Democrats are still the largest party with 35.5 percent of voter support. The governing Moderate party stands at 29.5 percent. The only party holding the four percent threshold is the Christian Democratic Party with 3.8 percent.

Together the four government parties hold 43.8 percent while the Social democrats,, Left party  and the Greens hold 49.8 percent. Far rights, Sweden Democrats are firm on 5.5 percent.
