As the year draws to its end, the various political parties in Sweden are taking stock of where the country is and where it is going. For the opposition party, Social Democrats, and its leader Stefan Löfven (pictured below), one of their biggest concerns is the emergence of a strong radical far right party.

The far right party, Sweden Democrats has been gaining momentum and growing stronger than anybody expected even when it looked like the party could be despised because of its violent characteristics. That was not enough as opinion polls after opinion polls showed the party gaining grounds. This has made some experts fear that a far right xenophobic party could soon control Sweden in the nearest future.

For the Social Democrats, who are the biggest political party in the country now but who are still languishing in the opposition, its leader points that it is the government's fault that the Sweden Democrats are growing strong, the party's leader, Stefan Löfven said in an interview with the Swedish daily, Dagans Nyeheter.

According to a poll of polls conducted by Statistic Sweden recently, it is primarily from the Conservative Moderateparty and the Social Democrats that the Sweden Democrats have recruited its sympathizers. Stefan Löfven, however places all his blame on the government.

"If you create a society with increased income inequality and greater social insecurity, that will in intern create the basis for this kind of parties. Most people who say they sympathize with the Sweden Democrats are not xenophobic basically, but many of them are scared and anxious of their future and jobs," he said to the paper.

Stefan Löfven commented on the film, which showed top officials of the far right party calling women whore and carried irons bars threatening the public in Stockholm.

He feels that it is irresponsible for a political party to behave this way and he personally feels "very upset and scared," he told the Dagens Nyheter.
