Sweden advices against travelling to Egypt and condemns any military action.

Thursday, 04 July 2013
Swedish Foreign Office has advised the Swedish people against travel to Egypt and writes that "Egypt can very quickly get into a downward spiral of progressively worse consequences," writes Foreign Minister Carl Bildt on his blog today.

Ministry for Foreign Affairs advises against non-essential travel to Cairo, Alexandria, Port Said, and Suez. However, it does not include advice against transit via Cairo International Airport.

"We can obviously not give our approval to the military interventions of this nature, and that although it probably is reason to believe that this intervention has broad support in parts of Egyptian society," writes Foreign Minister Carl Bildt, in his blog on Thursday morning.

He fears "increased repression against those forces, mainly around the Muslim Brotherhood, who still support President Mursi. And then the country can very quickly get into a downward spiral of progressively worse consequences. "

Bildt continues that the EU committee on foreign affairs and security should come together now to discuss what it would do with the situation.
