Social democrats show record deficit

Stefan Löfven has taken over leadership of the Social Democrat party at a time when the party is economically hard-pressed, reports from the party’s annual report for 2011 show.

Generous severance pay, including for Mona Sahlin last year, brought the party to a record deficit.
At the same time, the state contributions to the party drastically dropped after the bad results of the election 2010.

“We now have to keep working really hard on our costs and revenues from fundraisers and lottery, and more. If we are successful with that we’ll manage to keep the budget balanced, says Tommy Ohlström, the party's treasurer.
