Scandals and dismissals just act as positive PR for the Swedish far right party, Sweden Democrats as it persistently enjoys growing support among Swedish voters.

Sunday, 02 December 2012
The Swedish far right party, Sweden Democrats, strengthen its ground on the Swedish political scene as the Swedish voters gave the party thumbs-up in the latest opinion poll conducted in November as well as the poll of polls.

If the polls are not skewed in favour of the far right party, then, if election where held in Sweden today, the party will extend its position in the parliament. It will even show  some of its highest figure and gains ever, a latest opinion poll and a combination of the averages of various opinion polls which the polling organisation, Novus has done for radio Sweden.

So, if there were general election today, Sweden Democrats (SD) would stand at 8.4 percent in vote takings. This means Sweden Democrats just continue to move forward in voter opinion, despite recent high-profile scandals that have rocked the party in recent months.

The video images that showed party economic spokesman, Erik Almqvist, and legal policy spokesperson, Kent Ekeroth, with iron bars in their hands, threatening on lookers does not seem to have affected the Sweden Democrats' popularity among voters. But there is a catch though. More than half of the interviews in the polls, however, were before the scandal so it is safe to say that it will be until next month before it can be truly inferred if it had any effect in the opinion polls.

Marie Demker, professor of political science at the University of Gothenburg, which has been following and studying political populism in Sweden told radio Sweden that it is rarely this type of scandals that leads to lower poll numbers.
"Those who already sympathize with SD gets the picture of the party  being persecuted, mocked and harassed by the elite observed. Other people get the picture of the party as raw brutes and racists. Therefore, it happens not very much in the state of opinion," she says.
The scandal will however affect Jimmie Åkesson's aim and that of the party's long-term plan to become a more clean social conservative party and reach even more voters, - a level of about 10 - 15 percent in line with similar parties in other EU countries that have succeeded, says Marie Demker. "It is there that these scandals can record."

Novus aggregate of public opinion or poll of polls  show that the Red-Green opposition coalition have continued growth with 47.9 percent against the governing bourgeois coalition, the Alliance's 42.4 percent.

The Christian Democrats are still well under the four-percent barrier to get access to the parliament with 3.3 percent, and the Centre Party just over 4.2 percent. The Left Party was weakened and has 5.4 percent of voter support.
