Russia reacts to Swedish Foreign Minister LGBT tweet

Monday, 29 July 2013
Swedish Foreign Minister, Carl Bildt earlier on Monday, condemned via twitter Russia's anti-gay policy. Russia has not been happy with Bildt criticism and has shot back. "Such claims are simply false."

The issue here is that the Swedish Foreign Minister, who has been voted the most active public servant on social media in Europe, has not done so by making speeches and flip flopping as common with many politicians. He has seen twitter and feels that it can be a great tool to force change and pressure rogue power bodies. He has thus taken it and is using it irrespective of reactions, which might not be as welcoming as could be expected.

After a spat with the Egyptians which he highlighted the death of many protesters and which was countered by the Egyptians ambassador in Stockholm, Bildt descended upon Russia.
He use it one again today to criticize Russian gay law as see here on this twitter feed.

"Incitement to hatred against LGBT people in Russia are on the rise after the new law. Disgusting, Inhuman".

Russian embassy in Stockholm reacts strongly though and said the Foreign Minister interpreted and understood the law wrong.
"The recent Russian law prohibiting propaganda of homosexuality to minors has nothing to do with discrimination against LGBT people and does not infringe upon their rights. Such claims are simply false," the press attaché Alexander Pashedko said, reports tabloid paper Expressen.

According Pasjedko, the law has been adopted to prevent "reverse discrimination, when a small group of citizens have the right to aggressively market their opinions to children contrary to the views of the dominant majority of Russians."
According to Carl Bildt's press secretary, Erik Zsiga, the foreign minister has no more comments on the issue.
Talking about the leader of the free world, Bild love or loath him, he is taking that title.
