Norway allows interest rates unchanged

The Norwegian central bank, Norges Bank left interest rates unchanged on Thursday.

Norges Bank Governor, Øystein Olsen decided to hold key rate at 1.5 percent at today's monetary policy meeting.

"We did not consider other options. It is a difficult decision, but the trend was as expected and therefore there were no other options. In that sense, it was an easy decision," says Deputy Governor Jan F. Qvigstad about current monetary policy meeting.

That was not surprise decision, because there was already a broad consensus among experts that the Bank would keep interest rates was steady this time. Interest rates have not been touched since March this year, when it was reduced by 0.25 percentage points.

The points that was unanimously contended that developments in Norway and trading partners have been as expected during the summer. Inflation at home has been a little lower than projected, and the Norwegian crown has strengthened somewhat recently.
