More popular than his party and his opposition rival Stefan Löfven

Friday, 23 November 2012
Swedish Prime Minister, Fredrik Reinfeldt (Moderate) is pulling away from his challenger, Social democrats leader, Stefan Löfven when it comes to confidence of who could best lead the country.

This contrasts with the opinion survey as presented by the two leading parties where the social democrats currently have an edge.
In a recent opinion poll conducted by polling organisation SIFO for the PR agency Westander, and the tabloid Expressen confidence  in the Swedish PM, Reinfeldt is 53 while for his challenger,  Löfven only 28 percent have the most confidence in him.

In May, when Löfven was new as party leader, the corresponding figures were 49 for the PM and 32 percent for Löfven.

Löfven is still better compared to past social democrats leader in the past few years as leadership issues have rocked teh party. Hakan Juholts was one of the worst recently polled against Mr Reinfeldt 19 to 60, and Mona Sahlin was shellacked 63-18 polling against the PM.
The changes are statistically significant.

1000 people were telephone interviewed between 12 and 15 November. The question they had to answer was: Who do you trust most as Prime Minister?
