How Denmark leads in real modern evolution in gender politics the Danish government is now controlled by women

Monday, 15 October 2012
Denmark is a beacon of a glaring example of how gender gap in public institutions and how women take responsibility of the community and their personal life is evolving. Today most of the leading political parties running the country's affairs is made up of women, something seen only in Norway where women are present in top corporate boardrooms.

In contrast, places such as the USA - the Republican Party wants to put the women under the control of their men and the state such that, they cannot have control over their own bodies.

Three female party leaders now run Denmark and there is also a growing support section with a female voice in the country. Such is the political landscape now in Denmark which over the weekend, the ruling Socialist People's Party elected its first female president. This makes Denmark to have a government run only by female party leader while in opposition, the parties there are led only by men.

Even in the weekend, the contenders for the leadership of the Socialist People's Party, the two candidates where women. The health minister, Astrid Krag was the party leadership's proposal, but the winner was Annette Vilhelmsen, the challenger.

After the Red-election victory a year ago, when the Social Democrats formed a government with radical Liberals and Socialist People's Party, the party has lost votes and criticized for having compromised away their core issues. Annette Vilhelmsen has said that she wants to make the party more to the left again.

Then the party, Social Liberal Radical, Venstre, has Margrethe Vestager, as head of the party. She is the Chief Minister of the Interior and is considered to have the most power in Danish politics according to media reports.

The economic crisis, the bargaining power and a strong ministry has placed her at the top before the Prime Minister and the Social Democrats, Helle Thorning-Schmidt according to reports. But in Denmark it is not seen as a big deal to discuss about these women leaders. People do not even notice the differences until they are reminded of it.
