Swedish telecoms operator Telia to double price for data traffic

Telecommunications operator TeliaSonera has announced that it will raise prices on data communication in all surf packages and surf subscriptions, except subscriptions to Telia Mobile Flex, which includes both telephony and surf.

The maximum charge per day will more than doubled, from Skr9 to Skr19 per, while the amount of data increased from 0.5 megabytes to 2 megabytes, teh company said in a press release.

Telia will not charge extra for mobile IP telephony services. Telia's customers will be able to continue using skype and using other mobile ip-telephony services just like today, also when signing new subscriptions.

Mobile ip-telephony will continue to be included in all subscriptions, except in a completely new subscription launched on 24 September. The new subscription, Telia Flex Bas is designed for customers who primarily use traditional voice services and have limited need for data communication.
TeliaSonera CEO Lars Nyberg has long talked about the rapid change in the business model of mobile communication services. He has not been happy with TeliaSonera's own rate of change, which is why he on Friday announced that the head of the business area, Håkan Dahlström must go and be replaced by TeliaSonera's head of Eurasia, Kivisaari.
