Swedish inflation rates 0 percent, inflationary pressure less that expected

The Swedish inflation rate was 0.0 percent in January, up from -0.1 percent in December.
According to latest data from Statistic Sweden, inflationary pressure in the economy is lower than both the Riksbank and analysts had predicted according to analysts. The price level in January was unchanged from a year ago. Analysts had predicted a rise in inflationary pressures in the economy of 0.2 percent.

Compared with December, prices fell in accordance with the seasonal pattern. This resulted in a price decline of 0.8 percent in January compared with December. Price decline was slightly larger than expected 0.7 percent.

The Swedish Consumer Price Index (CPI) decreased by an average of 0.8 percent from December 2012 to January 2013 (0.9 percent decrease from December 2011 to January 2012). However, price decreases accounted for 0.9 percentage points. The difference was explained by the reweighting effects of the consumption basket.

Annual rate of inflation excluding mortgage rates, CPIF, was 1.0 percent in January. It is less than both analysts' forecasts of 1.1 percent and the Swedish central Bank of 1.2 percent CPIF inflation during the year. Between December and January CPIF inflation fell by 0.7 percent.
