Swedish Unemployment is rising – but at more stabilised higher level

Where are the jobs Sweden? What is happening with the Nordic tiger economy where unemployment rate among the workforce jumped 4.4 percent in June, compared with 4.0 percent the previous month.

In June 2011, unemployment was 4.5 percent, according to the national Employment Service’s monthly review.

The number of registered unemployed at the end of June was 206 000 an increase of 5000 compared to same month last year.

Including the number of people with activity support the unemployment rate was 8.1 percent of the workforce in June.

"The labour market is still going through a slump, but the situation seems to have stabilized. The biggest problem right now is the big long-term increase in the number of unemployed persons in vulnerable groups, and many of them have long periods of unemployment behind them, "said Employment Service Analysis Manager, Clas Olsson, in a statement.

The number of candidates in programs with activity support amounted to 3.6 percent of the workforce, or 169,000 people, 11,000 more compared to same month last year.

81 000 people had various forms of subsidized employment, an increase of 2,000 persons from the same month last year.

The number of notices amounted to 5,200, an increase of 2300 from the same month last year.
The total number of vacancies was 50 200, which was 100 fewer than the same month last year.

Among youths between 18 and 24 years, there was just over 91 000 registered unemployed in June, an increase of 7,000 people from the same month the previous year.
