Swedish Retail trade increased in April

Monday, 28 May 2012
Swedish retail trade sales volume increased by 0.8 percent in April compared to the same month last year.
According to official data from Statistic Sweden, retail sale for consumables was unchanged while retail sales for durables increased by 1.5 percent. The information is working day adjusted.

The turnover for retail trade measured in current prices decreased by 1.3 percent from April 2011 to April 2012. Retail trade for consumables (such as goods sold in department stores and specialised grocery stores) showed an decrease of 0.6 percent while durables (such as clothing stores, furniture stores, second-hand goods stores and mail order houses) decreased by 1.9 percent.
According to HUI Research which work the data along with statistic Sweden “after a good start for the year, this month was a setback for the retail industry. In current prices, sales declined in April by 1.3 percent. Despite the outcome in April, the year started better than expected. A key factor for the weak performance this month is a calendar effect. April 2012 had one less Friday and one less Saturday  than April 2011 and an extra Sunday and Monday, sharply affecting retail sales. Moreover, April 2011 was relatively strong.”
