Svenska spel to be scrutinized after TV report show unfair trading

Monday, 26 November 2012
Swedish gaming company, Svenska spel could be in trouble if the laws operating in the Swedish gamming industry are spread proportionately. An underground investigative documentary show that the company has been selling gambling chips to minors - something that is against the law.
On Sunday, the documentary show that Svenska Spel has been selling gamming chips to minors, in all six gamming platforms in its recently opened stores at Friends Arena. After looking at the TV report, the Swedish Gaming Board, Lottery Inspection or "Lotteriinspektionen" will be having a chat with the company to look into what is being described as an "oversight of Svenska Spel".

Swedish television showed that a 16-year-old, Anton was trying to bet Skr50 on the odds on each of the six newly established gaming stores at Friends Arena, when the game stores opened during the Sweden-England friendly.

All six games Officers at Friends Arena let Anton play. None of the games Officers asked for identification or a forms of prove that he had reached the right age to place a bet in such an environment. To add more pain to the rule, they tried to sell more games products to Anton.

Sevnska spel would have violated the social responsibility clause of the gaming market rule. Anton was not supposed to be allowed to gamble while under 18 years old, according to EU and Swedish rules.

Financial Markets Minister, Peter Norman, has reacted to this by accusing Svenska Spel of not following government's directives on social responsibility.
