Surprise Improvement Swedish retail trade in February

Swedish retail trade sales volume increased by 3.4 percent in February compared to the same month last year official data show.
Blamed on the February leap years day which contributed to extra day of
trading, there was observed increase in turnover in February by 3.4 per
cent in constant prices. In current prices, the increase was much as 6
percent, the strongest level since at least one year, reports Statistic
Sweden
Retail sales for consumables increased by 1.9 percent while retail
sales for durables increased by 4.6 percent. The information is working
day adjusted.
The retail trade sales volume increased by 1.2 percent from January 2012 to February 2012.
“The strong increase in sales in February is partly due to an
additional day, the leap day. Even when adjusted for the extra day the
sales increase was strong and the retail year 2012 has now gotten off
to a good start. Footwear and sporting goods stood out during February
with strong sales growth, 16 and 22 percent, which was mainly
stimulated by the winter which finally arrived”, said HUI Research, co
author of the data
