Thursday, 30 August 2012
A growing number of Swedish women are seeing treatment from gambling addiction. On would have expected that older ones would be more affected, but today it is not the case - middle-aged women are suffering more.

According to a latest report from Swedish National Public Health Institute published on Thursday,  despite the growing number, it is thought that still there are few women who seek help.

Public Health Institute has studied  the number of players or gamblers in Sweden,  and break them in groups and how these groups have changed over time and which ones have problems and why.
The report shows that there is an unexpectedly high mobility of the various groups. In one year, the Public Health Institute noted that 100,000 new problem gamblers have emerged, while an equal number have stopped. It also shows a new trend. Women, especially in middle age, now constitute a growing share of the new problems players.

The reasons for the increase is being attributed to intensive marketing in recent years directed at women. Accessibility to the gambling places which have expanded, both through computers and mobile phones.
The report also point that one thing that distinguishes women gambling is that they often play alone, which means a greater risk of losing control.

Despite all this there are few women who have actually began treatment and of those that do, many choose to stop prematurely.
