Finnish Unemployment remains steady
Tuesday, 26 June 2012
The Finnish unemployment rate in May was almost the same level as a
year ago. A total of 266 000 people were without jobs in May, according
to official figures from Finish Statistics Centre.
That represents about 8000 fewer unemployed than the year before. The
proportion of unemployed persons last month was 9.5 percent.
Compared to April 2012, the number of unemployment went up by 40 000.
The drastic increase is due to a variety of students who have now
entered the labour market.
However, data from the Finnish Employment and the Economy Ministry are
slightly different from the Statistical Centre data. According to the
Ministry, there by the end of May there was a total of 229 300
unemployed job seekers, which is 2700 more than a year earlier.
