The benefits of Swedish companies employing foreign born people

Non Swedish - looking people in Sweden really have a hard time getting a career and even a jobs from a typical Swedish company. Could the Swedish companies discriminating on the foreign born loosing something?

A new report in Sweden today holds that hiring immigrants - looking or what is described as ethnic minority in places such as the UK and USA, could mean a boost for businesses in terms of international trade and competitiveness.  This comes from an academic studies carried out in Örebro and Lund Universities in Sweden.

"Companies with more foreign-born labour force is increasing its foreign trade significantly. A one percentage point higher diversity level of the workforce is on average associated with a 9 percent more export, says Magnus Lodefalk, researchers in economics at Örebro University.

According to the study, a typical Swedish manufacturing firms increase their exports by over two million by hiring another foreign-born person.
The advantage lies mainly in getting a person with knowledge of cultural differences, different business norms and regulations of the importing country, in order to overcome the trust gaps and avoid additional costs, according to the researchers behind the studies.

Immigrants help Swedish corporations in their  businesses through unique knowledge of business cultures, politics, religion and language in their home countries and through networks and contacts, they help the exporting companies penetrate the local market, according to economist, Andrew Hatzigeorgiou, of Lund University.

The study is based on data collected from 7000 Swedish manufacturing company for ten years.
