Sweden could soon start exporting human ears technology

Saturday, 29 December 2012
Artificial ears may become one of Sweden's leading exports as the Swedish region of Skåne poised to make a next profitable business from it.

This is because the surgeons at the Plastic Surgery Clinic at the University Hospital in Malmö, said on Radio Sweden last Friday that Malmö is leadings the way in the development of cell related tissues that could be binned to make artificial ears that could be used to replace lost human ears.

At Malmö Clinic, about 20 ear reconstructions are conducted  each year, and there are resources to accept more foreign patients.
Most common patients are children born with very little or no ears, even patients who have lost their ears in accidents or patients whom through surgery their ears are removed as a result of  cancer, according to plastic surgeon Sven Olof Wikström to radio Sweden.

Primarily, it is thought that patients should come to Sweden to undergo surgery. But also surgeons can also go abroad.
"I myself have been in Malaysia for a period to train doctors in other countries, "said Sven Olof Wikström.
