Interest in Chinese Language study continues to grow even in Swedish primary schools

Monday, 14 January 2013
Sweden is leaving no stone upturned in its attempt to penetrate China seen as the next big thing in the market world. After proposing the teaching of Chinese language in secondary schools  be upgraded, it has now emerged that the learning of Chinese language should be strengthened in early education section.

Already, interest in the study of Chinese language is increasing in Sweden, overall after Chinese investment is also growing in Sweden, faster than some authorities think it is strategically necessary. To fuel this growth in the business that follows, a number of high school students with a final grade in Chinese or Mandarin has more than doubled over the past four years, to more than 900 students, according to new data from the Swedish National Agency for education.

Now this educational requirement is shifting to the preschools section with Chinese language a focus for their future development.

In some leading school in the capital Stockholm, Chinese and English are dominating the study atmosphere as Sweden tries to grow people who will open their eyes more to China and the rest of the world than focusing more on the EU and internally or  regionally which is producing limited opportunities as time goes.

Parents and political input are working with the prediction that more will be speaking Chinese in a few years. Even education minister, Jan Björklund told radio Sweden a few weeks ago, when he presented the decision to allow Chinese to become a language that all Swedish secondary school students are open to choose, in the light of modern language study.

The general premise held by most authorities is that China is the world's largest country and it is growing rapidly in importance. There is thus the believe that Chinese will be a more important language for the next generation.
