Who are the real Swedish patriots? Who pays the most taxes in Sweden?

Wednesday, 26 December 2012
2012 will go down as one of the years where governments have been struggling to cull back taxes from the rich after it turned out that most of them had advanced methods to avoid taxes.

Besides the governments' fight with tax havens to close loopholes which had made it easy for tax dodger to siphoned their untaxed wealth there, it has not been very clear who has been the real tax patriots.

It has turned out that H & M's Stefan Persson has paid the most taxes in Sweden. This makes him the most tax patriot in Sweden - something that was unexpected by people who had thought that he would be one of the most strategic taxpayer.

Stefan Persson  has threatened to  leave Sweden before but Swedish television has compiled a list of those who have paid the most taxes in Sweden. On top of the list stands Stefan Persson, chairman of H & M.

In three years, Stefan Persson has paid Skr1.7 billion in income taxes. In the 1990s he threatened to move abroad for tax reasons, but then he was forced to stay after taxes on his family businesses were reduced.

Today, the richest Swedes are said to be paying lower taxes than many ordinary workers, according to Swedish television.
It is known that the owner of Ikea, Ingvar Kamprad relocated to Switzerland to shed away from the huge Swedish taxes. It has also been reported regularly on Swedish press that Ikea has very advanced tax systems that makes it possible for the company to pay very little taxes in Sweden.
