Volvo's Belgian Gent production operations may cut 300 jobs as demand ground to a halt
Thursday, 25 October 2012Volvo Car Corp., Belgian operation based in Gent seems to be another problem in hat of the company as report holds that production there is on its way to reduction driven by declining demand.
By the end of the year, operations in Ghent plant will slow down and about 300 temporary agency workers would be forced to leave the company. Volvo has a total of 5,200 employees in Ghent.
The rate of production will be reduced from 59 to 54 cars per hour. A similar decrease, from 57 to 50 cars per hour, was recently implemented at the factory in Torslanda, Sweden. This meant that about 270 temporary employees were allowed to leave the Volvo.
In Skövde and Olofström, the company pulled down the number of temporary workers at the end of year.
