Volvocar Corporation presents new models? Or a review of old cars? or face lifts...?

Monday, 18 February 2013
Volvo Cars Corporation has had a tough time recently, sales have fallen in many markets, especially in China. It's former CEO, Jacoby, fell sick and was sacked from his sick bed. But on Monday the company presented a list of its 2014 model in which several of them are old models that have been given a new facelift.

Motor Journalists from some twenty countries, including Sweden, were in place in the Volvo Hall in Gothenburg to gain access to the Volvo News. But the term facelift to the representatives of the brand definitely stay away. More luxurious, tighter and more Scandinavian as Volvo Cars on Monday showed a major upgrade of its larger models. Additionally many of the cars qualify with minimal engine requirement for  the environmentally friendly cars arena.

"It is the largest renewal we have done when we renewed 70 percent of our production," says CEO Hakan Samuelsson.

Front, lights, seats and interior lighting, a total of 4000 - 4500 details have been reviewed on the V70, S60, V60, XV60, XC70, S80 and XC60. Only models V40 and XC90, the company's biggest and smallest car, has been left untouched.

Volvo thinks its renewal is so extensive that it would rather call it the new models than facelift, which is the usual term when old cars are about to feel luxurious.

Volvo does not want to make any more changes to its current fleet because the company plans to phase out all the models that were manufactured with Ford. Next new model is the X90, which comes on about 1-1.5 years.

Volvo is not expecting to hit big sales but a vital aspect is that the company wants to stop the sales slump and to remain a brand that survive in Europe. It is a tough market and many automakers are making big losses.

According to the motor journalist, Jan Nylander of Swedish television, it is too early to say whether the face-lift will be successful and its customers will buy the new idea.

The company will go through the two-year to invest in Skr70 billion to develop a completely new model range of cars and engines, so in a market that is declining. It is a difficult balancing act, according to Jan Nylander.

CEO Hakan Samuelsson, emphasize that Volvo operating at the right time in the right way to make the many models now that the economic crisis is still hitting Europe.

The smallest diesel engine, D2 has been revamped. It has become so fuel efficient that S60, V60 and V70 with similar engine design meets the tough new clean car rules that apply from the end of the year.

Analysts argued that such a move in engine improvement could become a trump card for the company since many  local governments have a policy of company vehicles to be environmentally friendly cars. Volvo is one of the few manufacturers that meet environmental requirements.

Official launch of the newly designed cars will be at the Geneva Motor Show in early March.
