Volvocar Corp., given Green light for production operations in China
Tuesday, 02 July 2013
Chinese owned Swedish automaker, Volvocar Corporations VCC has finally
been given the green light by the Chinese authorities to start
production of Volvo cars in China.
Described as good news, the Swedish business daily, Dagens Industri
write about the development in which Volvo spokesman Stefan Elfstrom,
told the paper that "The final step in the approval process is
completed, and thus all necessary licenses have been secured."
The final approval for Volvo Cars Corp., to start producing cars in the
Chinese market is made by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and
Information Technology, MIIT. The decision relates to the manufacture
of S60L, the extended version of the S60 in the factory in Chengdu,
where in early June Volvo Cars invited the media for a PR campaign.
This is despite the fact that all the necessary permits to commence
production at the plant was not yet in place. Probably, that is how
business is done in China - start operations and then seek necessary
permits after.
"The information we have received throughout the process in China is
that they take time., we have never seen any danger of the licenses to
be obtained well before the planned start of production in the fourth
quarter of this year, "said Stefan Elfström.
Licences for the engine plant in Zhangjiahou, which, like the car
factory in Chengdu will start production in the fall, and for the car
plant in Daqing, which is still under construction, are not yet clear,
writes the paper.
