Swedish and Danish people would be happy if no more government money is used on SAS

Sunday, 18 November 2012
As crisis in SAS continues to persist, Swedish and Danish tax payers, who own a stake in the company have now started backing away from it. The Swedes and the Danes are reluctant to inject more money into the airline SAS, after years of financial injection that has instead led to more loss making.

The Swedes, like the Danes are divided in their view of where the Scandinavian flagship flyer, SAS should be in terms of operation and continuity. Both countries have more negative than positive feelings that their governments should contribute more money in to the airline's operation.

The Norwegians on the other hand are positive to the view that SAS should be given more money and for it to continue to be state owned according to Swedish media report.

The Swedish daily, Svenska Dagbladet presented a survey on Saturday in collaboration with the Norwegian daily, Aftenposten and Danish Politiken which show the disparities of views from the three Scandinavian countries that own the company.
In fact, this is a retraction from past views some years ago, in which Denmark and Norway were more in favour of offloading SAS, economic situation seems to have changed that perception.

Sweden was the only country then that was more ready to keep SAS but as the economic environment in Denmark and Sweden changed with fear of huge unemployment should SAS failed, their views are changing. But in order not to throw good money after bad one, the public seem to be of the opinion that SAS should better fail and resource deployed in more competitive environment rather than sustaining a company which is already "rotten in the inside."

SAS has not made profit for a very long time as competition from what is described as low cost careers are hampering the company. But SAS management approach seem to have remain stagnant in the midst of changing times and has not sought out a way to run cheaply and make its products attractive. SAS remain a very expensive flyer and customers have shown that they can get value for money by travelling with other cheaper options.

Therefore the Swedish people feel that if SAS cannot compete in this current environment, it should be left to crash out of the market so that more competitive operators can wither buy the brand or juggle for position which SAS will leave.
