The sale of Saab automobile seems fully confirmed but what type of car is the new company, NEVS plans to produce?

Friday, 08 June 2012
More and more evidence suggests that the ultimate purchaser of the bankrupt Saab Automobile is an electric car consortium Nevs, National Electric Sweden AB.

According to unconfirmed reports, the Swedish newspaper, Svenska Dagbladet, say that Nevs is prepared to pay skr1.8 billion for the bankruptcy estate. This offer does not include spare parts company, Saab Parts, where the company had the majority of their assets.

The soon to be completed deal means that Chinese Youngman is out of the picture. Svenska  Dagbladet's sources say that Youngman recently came up with a bid of Skr4 billion, but the administrators felt that the bid was uncertain because it was not clear if Youngman would have access to funding or external finance.

Nevs business plan is to build an electric Saab 9-3 and then a Mini or small Japanese electric vehicle permitted by the license. A third step is, according to Svenska Dagbladet to develop the new generation of 9-3 on the unfinished Phoenix platform.

These are likely to cost billions of dollars and the question is how Nevs had thought to finance the whole thing.

The electric car plans is reported to have created anxiety among the subcontractors. "For us it is important to know whether to build conventional cars on a large scale and whether it is to build up a capacity for electric cars. It's a big difference of aiming at getting 100,000 cars on an annual basis or  a few hundred cars, "says Fredrik Sidhal, president of supplier trade association Automotive Suppliers, FKG, according to Swedish business daily, Dagens Industri.

The only one company which was bidding for Saab which FKG had made contact was the Chinese,  Youngman, a player who now seems to be completely out of contention.
"Paradis solution would have been a buyer that makes traditional cars in parallel with electric car development, "says Fredrik Sidhal to the paper.

Some people say that it is still early tell which proper strategy the Nevs will take.
