Record profits for Samsung as it dominates Nokia

Samsung reported a record operating profit for the first quarter of this year, 5.85 billion dollars, almost doubling over the same quarter 2011.
Behind this success is primarily the South Korean technology giant's smart phones and the combined smartphone / surf plate Galaxy Note.
Its shares have risen 27 percent so far this year.
Samsung has joined Nokia as the world's largest mobile phone manufacturer. Nokia has topped the market for 14 years.

In the first quarter this year, Samsung sold 93.5 million handsets. It owns 25.4 percent of the world's mobile phone market, according to research firm Strategy Analaytics.
