New attempts to sell SAS

Tuesday, 20 November 2012
The Swedish government has renewed efforts to try to sell the recently rescued airline, SAS. With the new rescue package in place, the Swedish Financial Markets Minister, Peter Norman, feels that the company has become more attractive.

After the SAS union negotiations was locked in yesterday, and the savings plan put in place, the government believe that it will be easier to sell the airline.

"Now we get to start over again, contact potential buyers and see where we end up. My assessment is that it may go a little easier," says Peter Norman to the Swedish business daily, Dagens Industri.

The crisis in SAS became acute when the three Scandinavian governments that own the majority of the airline last summer said they would not inject new money in the company. It led to the design of an austerity package.

Before then, governments have tried to find buyers for a long time without success.
The new program and credit the government has put in place and the loans placed by the banks is hoped that it will appear more attractive on the market.
