Hiring cost of medical practitioners in Swedish hospital rise to Skr 339 million
Thursday, 07 June 2012
Swedish Hospital spending last year soared as more and more doctors
were hired through temporary agencies. Doctors that are being hired via
this medium cost Skr339 million, an increase of 35 percent compared to
2010.
“I think it is unfortunate that we ended up in a situation where we
have such high costs for staffing doctors,” says Soren Kviberg (Left
party), chairman of the personnel committee of the Region, Västra
Götaland.
He believes that should the national healthcare facilities had their
own staff, the budget expenditure would have not been as great.
Last year there were increased hospital costs by 35 percent just by
purchasing medical services from agencies. The main reason for the
increase is that the hospitals wanted to reduce waiting times so that
more people receive care, and to do this, hospitals have had to hire
extra staff that they could not own themselves.
Swedish healthcare is great but due to intense streamlining, waiting
and length of stay has been a growing problem in the past and the queue
in these components has been very long.
