Growing concerns about increase in Swedish corporate bankruptcies
Thursday, 22 November 2012 Swedish companies are finding it increasingly difficult to pay their bills as the number of payment orders is at record high levels.
The fear is that this is a sign that companies cannot pay those they owe as such could signal more bankruptcies.
In October, the Swedish debt enforcement officials took enforcement decisions of about 6130 orders for payment, an increase of 36 percent since last October and also significantly higher than during the crisis years 2008 and 2009.
An enforcement order indicates serious problems with the company's ability to pay its bills - and by extension the entire company's survival and don the supply chain.
Such a situation is seeing a vigorous growth around the country. In the larger regions Stockholm County increases by 22 percent compared to last October. In Västra Götaland, (Gothenburg area) the increase is 54 percent. Both of these counties plus Skåne in southern Sweden has a higher number of payment orders than in any single month of crisis year 2009.
