Gothenburg Biscuit factory laying off 70 worker

Tuesday, 03 April 2012
Göteborgs Kex has given notice to 70 employees at its facility in Kungälv, reports Goteburg Posten.

The notice, which was given out on Tuesday, affects mostly floor factory workers but also some management staff. Union negotiations are scheduled to start on Tuesday.

The reason for layoff, according to Göteborgs Kex has to do with that the company wants to strengthen its competitiveness. A total of about 500 people work at the factory.  Göteborgs Kex in 2011 had sales of Skr970 million.

It was not clear how the company wants to improve competitiveness by laying off workers.
Göteborgs Kex  say they will work with an outside party to assist the employees with employment guidance in order to find new employment.

“We see a clear need to become more efficient in our production. It's a tough competition out there. One important step will be to better align our organization to new conditions,” says Sussan Sandberg, Production Manager at Göteborgs Kex.
