Fall in sales forces Volvo to close production site
Monday, 15 October 2012Volvo Cars factory in Torslanda will be closed for a week blamed on the collapse in car sales.
In so doing, the employees at Volvo Car's production site in Torslanda, in Gothenburg will get an involuntary fall holiday as the factory will be closed between 29 October and 2 November, reports Swedish business daily, Dagens Industri
"The car market is in a difficult situation and it hits the customers' willingness to buy a car. Therefore, we adapt our production to market, "said Volvocar's press officer Per-Ake Froberg to the paper.
The company had already lowered its October 1st production rate from 57 to 50 cars, but it's not enough. By closing the factory for a week provides additionally approximate 3,000 fewer cars to be produced.
