Even without Saab, Volvo cars still face stiff competition in the Swedish service car sector

Wednesday, 28 March 2012
Now that it looks like Saab automobile is either dead or still taking enjoying a long deep sleep waiting of its prince to come and kiss it so that it can wake up, Volvo has in the past months become the giant player in the growing Swedish company car market  or know here as service cars. This was also true in 2011 when some official including the police decamped from struggling Saab to Volvo.

But competitors are hunting Volvo down especially the vicious Volkswagen, which increased by nearly 24 percent its presence in the Swedish service car sector last year. This happened as Volvo almost stood still in a market which rose on the whole by 4.6 percent last year.

This is the market space which Saab left behind and competitors have sunk their teeth and cut it for themselves, especially Volkswagen but Volvo took it easy, according to statistics from the company that keeps data on the use the registration of company cars in Sweden, Ynnor AB.

In 2010, Saab had nearly 12 percent of the company car market in Sweden. It shrank to almost 7 percent last year. And immediately there was a Volkswagen which helped himself with the vacuum created.

"Yes, that's it. They have been very focused on this and hired people at large just to work on it, while Volvo has not done anything, "said Ronny Svensson, CEO of the company car registration organisation Ynnor AB.

In 2011 there were 231 904 company cars registered, an increase of 4.6 percent over the previous year.
"The fact that Sweden feel good, that people are recruited and investing in staff and they are wanted to remain in business, this something one can read from this data.  It's a hefty gain that we see in our customers," said Svensson.

He adds that company cars account for about half of new car sales in the country.
