Boat manufacturers, Nimbus Boats out seeks bankruptcy protection

Nimbus Boats, the largest manufacturer of pleasure boats in Scandinavia
which headquarter in Långedrag, Gothenburg has applied for bankruptcy
protection and currently being taken over by the administrators.
The fate of 200 employees hangs in the balance and the Scandinavia's
largest manufacturer of pleasure boats with about based in Mariestad,
Gothenburg and Småland are affected by the cessation of operations.
Nimbus has decided to file for bankruptcy after last year, the company
reported Skr144 million in losses in nine months. In the last three
years, the company is reported to have lost about Skr400 million.
Many of the boats are exported, a market that collapsed completely in
recent times with various market struggling with economic malaise.
“We are strong in the Nordic countries, but England and the
Mediterranean has been important to us, and in which we well almost
nothing today,” says Magnus Andersson, CEO of Nimbus Boats.
Much of the drop in the situation is due to the financial crisis raging
at moment in the EU and global economy. Management is now hoping that
someone else wants to take over the business, and reach new markets.
“I think that Russia and Asia are very exciting areas where I think
that boating can take off. It would help the industry at large, not
only in Sweden but for the entire boating industry.
The bankruptcy petition was submitted for the companies Nimbus Holding,
which includes Nimbus Boats, Storebro Bruks, Ryd ship industry and
Nimbus Production in Mariestad. It does not include Nimbus Stockholm /
NIMAX Marina.
