Another 400 jobs to go from Astra Zeneca
Monday, 14 May 2012
400 jobs are reported to be lost from pharmaceutical giant Astra
Zeneca’s Swedish operation after negotiated between management and the
union has now been completed. The largest loss will be seen in
Sodertalje.
In early February, Astra Zeneca announced that the company will close
its research units in Södertälje, a decision that led to the loss of
1,100 jobs. But this has had consequences for everyone else who works
at Astra Zeneca because as the valuable researches cut off have had
effect, it tends to affect the entire company in Sweden.
Negotiations
with the union have now been completed after having poked through the
whole organization stripping off what it calls unneeded resources. And
that means an additional 400 posts will be removed where the greatest
slimming will be done in Södertälje.
A to the departments most affected is the department in charge of the
maintenance of laboratory and instruments. There, 75 percent of the
services have been pushed away.
Now, in AstraZeneca's operation in Mölndal, there is concern because it
is held that about 50 or so employees will lose their jobs.
According to the company management downsizing is the only way to survive in the increasingly fierce competition.
“We have some tough years ahead,” says AstraZeneca's press officer
Ann-Leena Mikiver, which does not exclude that there will be new cuts
in the future.
