Is Conventional news media loosing trust or just a shift: An increasing number of Swedes reject conventional news media
Wednesday, 12 June 2013
New figures from the survey of the Swedish media viewership and
readership from conventional news sources show that many Swedes are
opting out of TV channels and various official news programs such as
morning newspaper.
In the survey, six out of ten regular news consumers are opting out
of news programs on TV channels whereas four out of ten do not
read any newspaper, - either in paper form or its online version.
The survey carried out by organisation NORDICOM at Gothenburg
University, presented on Wednesday is a strong signal to the various
news organisations and highlights the power of the emergence of things
such as twitter, face book and various social means of spreading news.
In five years, the Swedish morning newspapers readership decreased from
72 to 61 percent. Viewership of television news has gone from 55 to 38
percent since the beginning of the 2000s.
The greatest change has occurred more among young people, where only 12 percent watch television news views.
However the report did not say or speculate the sources in which young people get news or if they really read news at all.
