Airliner, Norwegian will fly from Copenhagen to Florida

Thursday, 14 March 2013
Scandinavia's second largest airline Norwegian is now launching long-haul routes from Copenhagen to Florida in the United States.

From November, Danes can fly all the way to Florida in the United States without having to stop between countries as Scandinavia's second largest airliner, Norwegian is launching its first long-haul route from Copenhagen. The Danes can fly directly to Florida, where the company will have two weekly flights from Copenhagen Airport to Fort Lauderdale, reports Danish radio.

The first departure will be the 29th November and departures will take place on Monday and Friday.

"I am very pleased that today we can open that sales for the first long-haul route from Denmark. Copenhagen is an important base for us, and we very much look forward to welcoming Danes on board our long-haul flights," CEO Bjørn Kjos said in a press release.

"With the launch of the route to Fort Lauderdale in Florida we'll behaving long-haul routes from all the Scandinavian capitals. This is a milestone in Norwegian's history," Bjørn Kjos added.

The next question is the price - the market for long-haul flights has for too long been characterized by high ticket prices with very little flexibility. The real success of the Norwegian routes to New York and Bangkok shows that there is a need for good deals to the U.S. and Asia.

"We continue our long-range effort, and it is gratifying to launch Fort Lauderdale in Florida as a new Norwegian-destination from Copenhagen and Stockholm. At the same time, we now have more tickets to New York and Bangkok from Oslo and Stockholm," said Kjos.

Fort Lauderdale in Florida is Norwegian's first long-haul route from Copenhagen and the third from Stockholm.
