150 jobs to go from Scan as it intensifies its restructuring efforts
Friday, 10 August 2012
Meat company Scan to cut its workforce by 150 people in Sweden. This despite the fact that Swedes eat more meat.
Sara Hoffman, Acting Director of Communications at Scan, explains the
somewhat strange equation with that the supply of Swedish animals has
reduced, which has pushed up the prices of Swedish meat.
"Since we only use Swedish meat in our products, we are now dealing
with an over-capacity in our facilities. The steady increase in
consumption of meat as we have seen in recent years are entirely
imports".
According to previous notice , the production of semi-finished goods
are moved from Strövelstorp to Halmstad and Kristianstad. If the plans
areas implemented, the production at the factory in Strövelstorp
will be closed.
The goal is to reduce its workforce by about 100 from the management and 50 in the production area.
"We have not given notice yet, but it is the plan. To some extent, we
hope to resolve this with natural attrition," the company say.
With the planned change, it is hope that the Finnish-owned HK Scan,
which owns the Scan brand, achieves an improvement of about Skr10
million per year. The changes will be implemented by mid-2013.
HK Scan employs approximately 2800 people in Sweden.
